It’s official: EE is the fastest network in London

Our network has won the RootScore® Award – Combined for overall network performance in London (June 2013).
Independent company RootMetrics® also confirmed our download and upload speeds are the fastest around.*
We’ve also just won the overall network performance award in Leicester and Leeds.
This follows the success we’ve had in Cardiff, Hull, Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield earlier in the year and it is a direct result of our continuous investment in the network.

FAQs

Will EE's 4G network work indoors?

Yes, our 4G network works both indoors and outdoors. Like all existing mobile networks, 4G works best outdoors as indoor coverage can be affected by a number of things: like how close you are to the transmitter; what the building you’re in is made of; and whether it is surrounded by trees or hills, for example.

As an EE customer you also get to enjoy the UK’s biggest 3G network and we’re spending £1.5 billion to make our network the very best in the UK.

Will my data use increase on 4G?

Doing something on 4GEE won’t use any more data than doing it on 3G, it's just quicker.

Since we launched 4G, we’ve seen a huge shift in the way people are using mobile. Video already accounts for 24% of all traffic on our 4G network – that’s significantly more than on 3G.

Maps, mobile commerce, sat-nav tools and cloud services are all seeing a similar rise.

Mobile users in the UK have a huge appetite for data-rich applications, and this will only grow as people become more familiar with and reliant upon next generation technologies and services.

Can I buy an unlimited data plan on EE?

We know that unlimited plans are popular but we’ve found the majority of people don’t need unlimited data. In fact, 99% of our customers use less than 5Gb every month. Our new 4GEE price plans have a range of data allowances (from 500Mb to 8Gb per month) so we’re confident this will be enough for most people.

To reassure anyone who is worried about running up a large bill we’ve built new controls into our data plans.

Firstly, it’s easy to check how much data you’ve used at any time with the My EE app.  But we’ll also send you a text when you’re nearing your limit and again when it runs out. If you want you can then buy a data add-on to see you through to the end of the month so you’re always in control of what your spending. If you’re regularly running out you will also be able to increase your monthly data allowance.

Why is 4GEE more expensive than 3G?

4GEE is five time faster than 3G and by 2014 we are investing £1.5 billion upgrading our network and bringing this technology to the UK.

Quite simply, some of this cost has to be reflected in our price plans but we think a 4G service is of such benefit to the UK that it’s well worth the investment.

Minimum term applies. Compatible device required. Just how fast your 4G will be depends on a couple of things: where you are and how many other people are using 4G too. "5x faster" is based on 1.5 Mbps UK average speed for 3G (source: most recent Ofcom speed survey) and 8-12 Mbps average speed for 4GEE (source: EE data). Have a quick look at ee.co.uk for more info.
